Brain Damage Quotient = 7.1 % ABV
Fluid Oz. = 12.0

Postmortem Brew Review
Hazy orange/honey color.
Smell of citrus hops. Nice oak aroma imparts from glass.
Firm but short lasting, off-white head.
Lace clings tightly to the side of the glass with each sip.
Oak taste and hops flavor pretty much dominate the muted malt tones and a vanilla finish.
Medium bodied and modestly complex flavors.

Grim Reaper's Eulogy
What can't Great Divide do with an India Pale Ale? It is easier to say that they can do pretty much anything. If you are an India Pale Ale fan, strap it on, because Rumble is one not to miss.

This one is a fairly sessionable IPA at a tad over 7%, unlike its big brother Hercules at 10% (yet to be obducted by yours truly.) And it's safe to say that Rumble is unlike its other sibling, Titan, a similar in ABV ale, but does not have Rumble's vanilla nor oak conditioning. Then there's the 17th Anniversary that combines more, more, more of everything as a DIPA, but that is not Rumble either. Oh yeah, there's also Belgica, Rumble's European cousin, a Belgian style IPA.

So where does this Oak Aged India Pale Ale fit in? Rumble tucks neatly in the middle of the pack, yet stands on its own. A fairly easy drinking, modest ABV India Pale Ale with an oaky and vanilla character that hits the taste buds like, well - like WHAM!

A very interesting and unusual India Pale Ale that satisfies and surprises.

Super black onyx color.
Smell of rich roasted malt and toffee.
Thick, rocky caramel colored head.
Lace clings tightly to the side of the glass with each sip.
Roasty malt taste with vanilla, and large hits of hops flavor.
Full bodied and full complex flavors.

Grim Reaper's Eulogy
"Untamed". "Imposing". Though the print is tiny, these two words jump off the label. Yeti is not a brew for the timid...believe that fact.

Let's start with the malt. Rich and roasted. Toffee and caramel wafts off the nose. Sip it, and Yeti envelopes your tongue in a rolling river of rich malt. Then come the staggering 75 IBU's of hops. They will grip your taste buds and hang on for dear life as the malted backbone slides down your throat, searing every inch.

Now I have had the oak-aged version as well and prefer the additional flavor note, but let's take a moment to recall that original Yeti is a multi-award winning stout from the 2005, 2008 & 2009 Great American Beer Festival. All this knowledge will hopefully prepare you for your elusive encounter with a Yeti.

You drink Yeti - - - you will believe!

Black in color.
Smell of roast malt, vanilla and oak mingle on the nose.
Thick, rocky caramel colored head.
Lace clings tightly to the side of the glass with each sip.
Roasty malt taste with vanilla, and large hits of hops flavor.
Full bodied and full complex flavors.

Grim Reaper's Eulogy
This blog post was done live at the first ever Beer Blogger's Conference, held in Boulder Colorado. 108 bloggers were in attendance, from over five hundred identified blogs. Luminaries of the craft beer world also attended to serve as presenters and keynote speakers for the event. A "speed round" of blogging was held by 12 brewers, each bringing an exemplary brew to blog. 12 beers, 12 blogging tables and 60 minutes were allotted in a fun, free-for-all session.

Round #10

Bryan Baltzell of Great Divide
Bryan Baltzell was the Yeti 'wrangler' from Great Divide, for this round. Oak Aged Yeti, no less. This is a sumptuous Russian Imperial Stout that left an impressive rocky head with some nice lacing on the glass.

Bryan passed a couple of bottles around the table for review while explaining the difference that oak aging makes on this brew, compared to the standard Yeti. I have never tasted either and was looking forward to trying it. After pouring, sniffing, holding it up to light, and swirling the beer, I raised the glass to my lips in great anticipation. Boo-yah!

According to Great Divide, this is a more sophisticated version of the Yeti.  Kinda' sounds like an oxymoron; a sophisticated Yeti?!!? Now I have a picture of Peter Boyle from Young Frankenstein stuck in my head.

Frankenstein in a tuxedo? You bet! It's "Super-DOOPER!"

Rich amber color.
Mild malt and piney, citrus aroma.
Foamy, two finger tall, tan head with solid draped lacing.
Well balanced malt to hops characteristics.
Medium
mouth feel, great hops flavor in each sip.

Grim Reaper's Eulogy
Great beer from Great Divide.  Solid IPA and there is really little else to say.  This is quite a good ale.  The hops are there in the nose.  They invite your senses in where you find a malty sweetness and then a nice hops bitterness on the finish.  Wow.

It may be Great Divide, but there is a tiny little titan gladiator on the label.  Hmm...Gladiator? Naaa - more like glad I drank her.

Deep amber, nearly copper in color.
Mild malt and fragrant hops aroma.
Two finger tall, tan head with great retained lacing.
Easy session drinker.
Medium mouth feel, splash of hops with each sip.

Grim Reaper's Eulogy
Another visit to WOBUSA and another claimed beer. This is such a good English IPA and went well with dinner. Spicy hops tinge each sip. Great Divide has a made this an easy to drink session IPA.

Al and Brogan hosted this evening and helped me continue my knowledge in their new establishment, while broadening my knowledge in beers and ales.

Another notch in my Loyalty Card and another great beer from Great Divide.

Ruby red color.
Mild malt and slight fruit aroma.
Foamy, two finger tall, tan head with decent lacing.
Easy session drinker.
Light mouth feel, raspberry tones in each sip.

Grim Reaper's Eulogy
Good things from the earth in an ale so easy to drink. Wild Raspberry Ale will tantalize you with the red and black raspberry tartness balanced with malts and easy amounts of hops. This was also enjoyed by the Mrs. , as she has a liking for the fruit concocted beers and ales.

A brew that goes as well with spicy dishes as it does on its own in any session of ale consumption. Get your toes in the grass, smell the fresh air and indulge in the sensation of Great Divide's wonderful nature brew.

Enjoy the nature on the "wild" side!
