Clear yellow color.
Grainy corn smell and flavor.
Fast foaming head that doesn't last long.
Smooth and crisp with light watery body.
Grim Reaper's Eulogy
So on Saturday, I did two things that I haven't done in a loooong time. 1) I went bowling and 2) I drank light beer. Hmmmm. You have heard this from me once before, regarding a certain other famous light beer - - - don't be so hasty to prejudge! Now while it's certainly not the first thing I would reach for, sometimes it becomes the go-to beer when a vacuum exists. And whereas nature abhors a vacuum, something must fill the space between.
Bowling was for a good cause; The Susan G Komen "Bowl for the Cure" to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. And while I enjoy reaping in the beers, when it comes to cancer of any kind, we must all support the research. So after an afternoon of fun 'bowling for boobs', enjoying a light brew wasn't such a penalty. Beer for boobs? Well, only if you buy into the silly gimmicks. Otherwise, what's wrong with any beer between friends?
Though my bowling ball had more heft than the ABV in the can, that wasn't a bad thing, either. All the better for it as I did not drop the sixteen pound ball on my toe! Not my cup of tea, but when somebody wants to buy a you a beer my friend, that's what it is all about.

Light golden to straw, in color.
Grainy and sweet smelling with no hops.
White head with zero retention and lace.
Medium, active amount of carbonation.
Light bodied. Sticky sweet taste on palate.
Grim Reaper's Eulogy
Known as the "grenade" for its bottle's appearance, Mickeys Malt Liquor is one of those distinct throw back beers from bygone days. It's in the same category as the Schlitz Malt Liquor "Bull" and Haffenreffer's "Mean Green" whereas any frat boy with pocket change looking for a cheap buzz, is the target market.
It is not without any merit. This little pocketful of dynamite will fit neatly in the cooler and won't weigh you down. It's pretty easy to swill out of the large mouthed, chugger style opening. They even have rebuses under the cap to entertain you once the buzz hits. And when the buzz does kick in, you'll be glad they are pictures, (not complicated things like words!) At a mere 5.6% ABV, it will hit you like a UFC fighter. Seriously, some of those guys are pitchmen for this little stinger.
You should be getting the picture of where this fits into your beer drinking escapades by now. So, get stung if you will, but The Reaper has warned you! Use care in handling these grenades.
Pairing Tip - - - This brew goes well with Asprin or Ibuprofen.

Pours pale yellow.
Malty aroma.
Light to medium bodied; best drunk ice cold.
Quickly dissipating and foamy head.
Medium to light mouth feel.
Grim Reaper's Eulogy
Another brew that's been around for a while. Though it's not been a real "old timey beer", it has had a reputation at backyard events in its heyday. This is one of the first cold filtered beers in modern times; the name gives that away. Great at softball events and the like...but not too much on the nostalgia. They are wringing a bit out of the latter-day crowd for the guys like girls factor as evidenced on their website.
This is more of a 'bottle drunk' beer than in the glass or mug. I've already given my shovel's worth of dirt, so you decide.

The "Champagne of Beers" has a draft-in-a-bottle cousin, and it is not remarkably different than High Life. So does this mean it is more of a marketing trend? While it is low cost, High Life is even less, with measurably the same taste. MGD is not really terrible, but neither is it special. And while it has some heritage, it's not nearly as old time as High Life.

Amber red color.
Slight sweetness up front, but not overpowering.
Pours with a decent head, but thins after standing.
Light to medium body with a little bit of hops.
Clean, crisp and drinkable.
Grim Reaper's Eulogy
Just had to have an Irish brew for St. Patrick's day. Upon a closer look though, it appears this may be from the motherland recipe, but it is brewed here in the states. It's red, it's Irish and it's not too bad. You can definitely do worse than this beer. And, for the price and ability to drink more than one? It goes down smooth.

Clear and pale yellow in color.
Grassy flavor with distinct sweet grainy smell.
Soapy, two finger head with just a bit of lacing.
Crisp flavor and smooth finish.
Grim Reaper's Eulogy
The "Champagne of Beers" with their distinct girl-over-the-moon on the label, this gal has been around for more than 100 years, still in the original clear long neck bottle. Very recognizable, it's one of the bigger mass produced beers that doesn't put a dent in your budget and still delivers an unpretentious air. Over the years of their advertising, this beer has let you know it is for relaxing with, as in their jingle, "...if you've got the time, we've got the beer!"
Well, I had plenty of time to take in this 12-pack at the budget friendly price of $6.74! Wow....you can pay that much for another pretentiously snobby bottle or draught, down at your local watering hole. For this price I can make eleven friends, too! By the way, the company is now Miller Coors. It seems they have had to make friends with their beer to stay in the game.

Clear amber color.
Grainy aroma, neither malty or hoppy.
Fast foaming head with average lacing.
Medium bodied.
Grim Reaper's Eulogy
This beer is usually found in familiar 'oil cans' that are 25.4 ouncers. Those oz. are big like in the land of the Ozzie's, and just like Texas, everything is bigger in Australia. It's the only landmass that's a single country and a continent, save for Antarctica. It's hardly a surprise they are now affiliated with Miller Brewing in Texas, stateside.
Foster's flavor comes from their signature Ringwood hops. It's a cool brew meant to be served icy cold. Even the tap handles in bars are cool surfing 'long boards'! It doesn't get cooler than that, mate!
